Lorin, a mental health therapist
Meet Lorin Bonacci
Psychologist | BPsySci(Hons), MProfPsy, MAAPi

Hi, I’m Lorin. I support adults when life feels overwhelming, difficult or simply isn’t working the way they would like. I have an interest in supporting neurodivergent adults, particularly those with Autism and ADHD.

Neuro-affirming Psychology

Neuro-affirming therapy works with how a person’s brain functions rather than against it. Instead of trying to modify behavior to appear more neurotypical, this approach adapts tools, environments and expectations to fit the individual. It recognises stimming and sensory needs as valid, focuses on autonomy and strengths and sets collaborative goals.

No, Bonacci Practice does not bulk bill. However, Medicare rebates are available for eligible clients with a Mental Health Treatment Care Plan.

You can get a referral for psychology sessions by speaking with a GP. If this is your first time seeking a mental health referral, most GPs prefer that you book a longer appointment to allow enough time to discuss your needs and to prepare a referral.

A therapy session costs $235. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP), you can then claim a Medicare rebate of $101.55. Alternatively, some private health insurers will cover part of the cost of a session, check with your insurer for details.

A 50% payment is required to secure your booking before the assessment session. The remainder is due before feedback session and report release.

No. Medicare rebates do not apply to assessments.

No. Psychologist cannot prescribe medication. At present only psychiatrist can prescribe medication for ADHD (albeit there are plans to have GPs be trained in this area).  If you are sure you have ADHD and wish to trial stimulants we recommend you seek a referral to a psychiatrist via your GP.

Both psychologist and psychiatrists are trained in diagnosis. Psychologists focus on behavioural intervention for ADHD and psychiatrist pharmacology.

If you do not meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD and/or Autism, you will be supplied with a summary detailing this and suggestions for further treatment.

Seeking assessment does not guarantee any diagnosis.

This depends on the assessment. Our ADHD assessment is 1.5
hours; Autism 3 hours and combined 3-4 hours. We encourage movement breaks, fidget items, or other supports that may help you to feel as comfortable as possible
for the assessment session.
